Concert : New Baroque Festival Verviers - Tribute to Gabriel Fauré (1924-2024)

The Solistes Baroques de Liège are back in Verviers, after a memorable performance of Lully's Te Deum on 24 March in the Petit-Rechain church, packed to the rafters with enthusiastic fans! 

The New Baroque Festival Verviers is delighted to invite you back on Saturday 1 June at 8pm to the Church of Saint Hubert in Heusy for another musical rendez-vous. This time, lovers of choral and vocal music will have the pleasure of hearing or hearing again Fauré's famous Requiem, composed in 1887 and premiered in 1888 in the Madeleine church in Paris, before quickly becoming a great national and international success. This concert will be given as a tribute to Gabriel Fauré, 100 years after the death of this brilliant composer who paved the way for Impressionism and the revival of French music, notably with Debussy and Ravel. This Requiem, very originally luminous, is of moving beauty. On 1 June, audiences will be able to hear not only the Solistes Baroques de Liège in this Requiem - considered to be one of the finest of its time - and in a variety of choral works, but also the Verviers harpist Julienne Thonard, the baritone Bernard Aty Ngoy from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, and the Héliotrope instrumental ensemble, made up of musicians from the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège.

Made up of around twenty singers, the Solistes Baroques de Liège - choir and soloists - were created around a core group of singers from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, joined by other singers from the Conservatoire Royal de Liège and the province's music academies. They lay claim - in vocal form - to the heritage of the Solistes de Liège, the pioneers who helped revive baroque music in the former Principality of Liège in the 1950s. Despite their name, their repertoire is not limited to baroque music.

On the programme: vocal works, a capella or with organ, including a stunning Palestrina and music from the 21st century. Requiem by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) for choir, soloists and instruments
