A little history...

The establishment of this dam was requested by the Verviers woolgrowers around 1857, in order to have the forty thousand litres of pure water needed every day for the textile industry of the time.

The Gileppe dam was impounded in May 1875 and inaugurated on 28 July 1878 in the presence of King Leopold II.
