Fondation Adolphe Hardy

Born in Dison, in 1868, Adolphe Hardy enjoyed a brilliant literary career. He was distinguished by the French Academy which awarded him the Grand Prix de la Langue Française, a French prize awarded to a work by a writer from outside France.

Adolphe Hardy was the first Belgian author to receive this prestigious distinction, awarded for his collection of poems "Le cortège des mois".

Other than journalistic activities, the literary activity of this author from Dison also involved writing novels. Transformed into a museum- foundation, his native home has been opening its doors to visitors since more than twenty years ago and tells of the poet's life via paintings, souvenirs and familiar objects. This considerable number of objects was been lovingly assembled by the late Miser Joseph Gélis, the former owner of the house who died in 2007.

Ready for you to discover are manuscripts, souvenirs, furniture and the poet Adolphe Hardy's works and other writers from Dison, documents about Franchimont and the Polleur Congress (1789), paintings and drawings by Belgian artists, weaving workshop and loom from 1776.

A moving visit enhanced from time to time by a variety of temporary exhibitions.
