Exhibition at the Verviers Museums: Philippe Derchain (1873–1947)
From 3 July 2026 to 1 August 2027, the Verviers Museums pay tribute to the painter Philippe Derchain (1873–1947), a leading figure of the Verviers School.
Bringing together a remarkable collection of rarely seen works from public and private collections, the exhibition reveals a painter who brings the simplest moments to life: an interior bathed in silence, a landscape bathed in light, a gesture held in time. Like Maurice Pirenne and Georges Le Brun, Derchain is counted among the Verviers Intimists, a term referring to their shared aesthetic characterised by the silence of interiors, the tranquillity of landscapes and the meticulousness of gestures.
An invitation to step into the intimate and rediscover a regional artistic treasure that remains as relevant as ever.
Opening hours – coinciding with the museums’ opening hours: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
