Barrage de la Gileppe

The Barrage de la Gileppe is an undeniable tourist attraction in the region!

The place to be... the ideal place

Its monumental lion and lake attract visitors (tourists and locals alike) in search of walks, tranquillity and nature... To be discovered on foot, by bike... or even on horseback!

On-site activities for young and old include 7 tree climbing courses, a playground, two-wheeler hire (bikes, mountain bikes, electric bikes, scooters, etc.) and, since April 2025, a barefoot trail called ‘Le sentier de Léo’. Over a distance of 600 metres, this last experience brings together 13 different textures to feel with the soles of your feet (water, sand, logs, etc.).

Take the lift up to the 78-metre-high panoramic tower, which houses an information centre. At the very top, enjoy the view and dine in weightlessness in the panoramic restaurant-brasserie. Enjoy the terrace at the foot of the tower and discover the Burger Bar & Tearoom.

A little history...

The dam was built at the request of the Verviers woolgrowers around 1857, to provide the forty thousand litres of pure water needed every day for the textile industry at the time.

The Gileppe dam was impounded in May 1875 and inaugurated on 28 July 1878 in the presence of King Leopold II.
