4801 Stembert
Limburg: from Stembert to the Gileppe dam
From Stembert, passing through the bucolic village of Limbourg, discover the Gileppe dam and its panoramic tower, watched over by the famous lion made of 183 blocks of sandstone.
Follow the green arrows (pictogram of stiles*) from Stembert to the entrance to the Hèvremont woods (east-west branch) and then the red arrows from the Hèvremont woods to the Gileppe dam (north-south branch).
*Stiles are devices used to cross a fence to prevent cattle escaping. They can take different forms, such as a turnstile, a ladder or a gate. Standing stones" or "dressed stones" can still be found at the foot of the oldest stiles. Nowadays, these are mainly used by walkers, but in the past they were frequently used by the local population to get to neighbouring villages.
